In 1727, Maharaja Jai Singh II founded the city of Jaipur. We was a Rajput ruler who ruled from 1699 – 1744. He thought to shift his capital from Amber to Jaipur, because of the increasing population and scarcity of water. The city of Jaipur was the first planed city of India.The designing of the city was Bengali architect,Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. With a proper strategic plan the construction of the city of Jaipur was started in the year 1927.The construction of the major palaces, roads took almost around four years. The city of Jaipur was divided into nine blocks. Out of these nine blocks, seven blocks were allotted to general public of the city and the rest two blocks were meant for the state buildings and palaces. The city got its name as the “pink city”, when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur. The whole city was painted in pink to offer him a warm welcome. The rich culture and the historical values of the splendid city have never failed to allure the travelers, since time immortal. |
